Cities of the Gods is a new cd by Katia Tiutiunnik (Australia, 1967). A cd with 11 cello pieces performed by the Canadian Julia Maclaine.
She has composed extensively for a wide variety of Western and Oriental instruments. Tiutiunnik was the first Australian composer to be appointed Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, New York. She was also the first Australian to complete a residency at Charles Morrow Productions, New York, where she composed a work for three-dimensional soundcube, presented in Cologne, in November 2005. Most recently, she was a Senior Lecturer in Composition at the Faculty of Music, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam, Malaysia, from March 2012 until April 2016 and an Honorary Research Associate at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the University of Sydney, from June 2010 until June 2016. In August 2016, Tiutiunnik was appointed Professor of Music at Sias University, Xinzheng, Henan Province, China where she worked until embarking on a privately sponsored sabbatical in South East Asia on November 20 2019.She is currently based in Mexico and Central America.

Two Trios (one with Cello, the other with flute) embrace the program of small short pieces for Violin and Fortepiano, highlighting in particular the larger Violin Sonata, Op. 112.

NEW CD: Fania Chapiro, Henriëtte Bosmans

Deze cd is geïnspireerd op een van de thema's van het Brundibár Kunstfestival, "Inspirerende vrouwen" waaronder Henriëtte Bosmans (1895-1952) en Fania Chapiro (1926-1994). Op die deze album staan de Vioolsonate (1918), één van Bosmans' vroegste compositorische debuten. Dit is voelbaar in de muziek: het stuk zit vol jeugdige passie, leven en charme. Het Pianotrio (1921) was een verjaardagscadeau van Bosmans aan haar moeder. Het stuk is een vroege compositie, overwegend romantisch met vleugjes Spaanse passie, Frans impressionisme en echo's uit het Midden-Oosten.

Het Delta Piano Trio heeft een bijzondere band met Lera Auerbach (1973), “a renaissance artist for modern times." De veelzijdige Lera Auerbach is een gerenommeerd dirigent, concertpianist en componist. Ze is ook een bekroonde dichter en beeldend kunstenaar. De cd-opname die het Delta Piano Trio eerder maakte van Auerbachs eerste twee pianotrio’s werd bejubeld door de internationale muziekpers. Op het nieuwe album Milking Darkness staan nieuwe werken van Auerbach waaronder solo stukken voor viool en piano en de wereldpremière opnames van haar Piano Trio no. 3 en 4.
Wanneer je alle kleuren verf met elkaar mengt, krijg je zwart. Op dezelfde manier bestaat de duisternis in de muziek van Lera Auerbach uit alle denkbare kleurschakeringen, van pikdonker tot verblindend licht. De componist legt zo de wisselvalligheid van het leven vast. Haar muziek is zowel rauw als menselijk. Het trio werkte nauw samen met de componist tijdens de voorbereiding van dit album.
De natuurlijke kracht die aan de basis ligt van alles wordt weerspiegeld in de compositie Milking Darkness (2011) voor solo piano. Het Delta Pianotrio vond de titel van het album een passende beschrijving van niet alleen haar werk als geheel, maar ook van de intense werking die haar muziek kan hebben.
Het Delta Piano Trio brengt op 18 oktober haar pianotrio's 3 en 4 ten gehore tijdens het Lera Auerbach Festival.

A Thousand Butterflies is een portretalbum dat terugblikt op haar reis als componiste de afgelopen 11 jaar en en roept een leven op dat continenten heeft doorkruist. Hoe kunnen we verzoening bereiken, met onszelf, elkaar en met de wereld om ons heen? Diep overtuigd van de zachte, troostende kracht van muziek, schreef jazz vocalist Marit van der Lei de muziek voor haar nieuwe album Clementia vanuit het perspectief van iemand die ziet dat we collectief minder mild zijn geworden en vooral zijn overgegaan op radicalere denkwijzen.

Alexandra Ivanova's music is full of influences that are as diverse as the world we live in. In fact, the Austrian pianist with Bulgarian roots has already lived in Jordan, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates and France, and has immersed herself in a wide variety of cultures. “I was a Scott Joplin fan and played my first ragtime pieces when I was 10,” the pianist recalled. "I remember how the ‘Maple Leaf Rag’ attracted me magnetically. ‘Cherokee’ was the first jazz standard I played. I founded my first trio at the local music school. I really immersed myself in the music of Oscar Peterson and Ahmad Jamal." Despite studying Social Sciences at the prestigious Paris Institute of Political Studies, Ivanova was simultaneously drawn back to the piano. “Back then, I was interested in both Harold López-Nussa and Avishai Cohen,” the pianist recounted. “I also played my own compositions with my trio during my Master's studies.” Globetrotter years followed the two parallel studies. "But the world does not revolve around Europe," Ivanova said, "and that's why I learned Arabic at that time and moved to Lebanon. After that, I lived in Jordan and in the Gulf. Those five years in the Middle East brought me closer to Muslim, Arab, Indian and Pakistani cultures, where the topic of Western privileges comes up in conversation. I got to know Tarek Yamani in Dubai, of whom I had been a big fan for a long time and who became my mentor. I put my career aside to have time to compose. After an artist residency in Iceland, I moved to Berlin during the pandemic.”

NEW CD: Henriëtte Bosmans

The three works by the Amsterdam-born Henriëtte Bosmans (1895–1952) in this album all date from her early to mid-twenties. The Violin Sonata and Piano Trio are substantial pieces, both animated by the passion of youth – and, given their quality, it is astounding that they should be receiving their first recordings here. At this stage in her life Bosmans was still writing in an expansive, Romantic style, although echoes of French Impressionism, Spain and the Middle East can often be heard – and from time to time the Violin Sonata nods to Bach and Reger.
